    Profile: Referee, John Hickey

    Club: Fenagh

That Match: The 1973 JFC final against The Blues which I played in as a teenager. We won after a replay.

One to forget: Losing the 2004 SFC final to Rathvilly after a replay.

Any rule change I would make to? No. The refs are well briefed but during a game, players or supporters might not always have the same interpretation. That can lead to problems.

Favourite Player: Jack O’Shea of Kerry.

Other sporting interests: I love all sports

Sporting ambition: To referee an All-Ireland senior final in Croke Park

One item I would put on my bucket list: I would like to visit Ground Zero in New York where the twin towers were.

If she played her cards right, I would bring her out to dinner: I better say, Ciara, my wife

  • Andy Murphy Remembrance To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Andy Murphy’s passing, his sons and daughters with interested Tinryland and Carlow GAA folk are organising a range of activities next year (2015) to commemorate the great Carlow footballer who won six county titles with Tinryland, three Railway Cup medals with Leinster and was on the Cosets team which won a Leinster football title. He played in the 1953 NFL final against Mayo. Events will include a football match, a fun-run, a golf classic and an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia all connected with Murphy and those great footballers whom he played with and against.
